Verne is Nominated for Person of the Year--Please read the nomination below:

I would like to nominate Verne Folkmann for 2010 Person of the Year. When I moved to Iowa City in March, several friends referred me to Folkmann, a local realtor. Throughout my home buying process, Folkmann frequently spoke about the benefits of community service and encouraged me to get involved. He sponsored me as a new Rotary Club member, invited me to fundraisers for the Ronald McDonald House, Athletes in Action, the Children's Hospital and many more.

I have also seen Folkmann working at a number of other community events, including a celebrity "pie in the face" fundraiser. As vice president of the Rotary Club, Verne represented our chapter at the International Convention and leads the club in new member recruitment. As a Johnson County I-Club Board Member, Folkmann sponsored the Kirk Ferentz luncheon, the Fran McCaffrey luncheon and one of the Friday morning I-Club breakfasts.

As I attended these events, I met many other people who Folkmann has welcomed to the community. We talked about the impression Folkmann made on us by not only selling us a house, but helping us find our own ways to give back to the community.

I just read in the Press Citizen that the local realtors' association recently honored Folkmann with their Distinguished Service Award. It is great that Folkmann's peers recognize his exemplary efforts!

Please consider my nomination of Verne Folkmann as 2010 Person of the Year. You would be honoring a very hard-working individual who has made an impact on many people and worthy organizations.
